January 1998

Presentation & Discussion Forum - "Quality Of Education Facilities Plan, Phase 1" by Pam Miller, President, Waterloo School Board. Pam Miller presented information concerning the $49.8 million bond issue for facilities improvement within the Waterloo School system.

February 1998

A noon business meeting was held at the Holiday Inn in Cedar Falls. The program featured Round Table Discussions on the following topics: 1) Cedar Valley Wage & Benefits Survey, 2) Employee Assistance Programs, 3) Background Investigations/Employee Privacy Issues, 4) New Ideas in Training Strategies, 5) HR Software & Technology

March 1998

Holiday Inn, Cedar Falls -- 5:30 p.m. Business Meeting, 6:00 Presentation: EAP Program Development and Behavior Risk Management Practices in today's workplace. A panel Discussion included Cedar Valley EAP Professionals and HR Practitioners.

April 1998

Brown Bottle, Cedar Falls, 5:30 Business Meeting, 6:00 Presentation: Dr. David Whitsett, a Psychology Professor at UNI and consultant to organizations on issues such as organizational change and HR development presented ideas and techniques to increase workplace motivation.

May 1998

We observed our 30th Anniversary as the 93rd SHRM Chapter in the nation, with a Banquet and Program at the Holiday Inn, Cedar Falls. James Allen, Iowa SHRM Council State Director, was the featured speaker.

June 1998

Sandy Boost, SHRM Area III Manager, presented an on-line demonstration of resources available to HR Professionals at the Cedar Falls campus of the American Institute of Commerce.

July 1998

The July meeting was held at the local Iowa Workforce Development Center, 3420 University Avenue, Waterloo. Staff presented the program, titled, "Iowa's Complete Resource for Employers and Applicants."

August 1998

This early morning meeting was held at the newly remodeled GMAC Mortgage facility in Waterloo. Speaker presentation was by Moyer & Bergman, Attorneys at Law, Cedar Rapids on "Iowa Drug Testing Legislation and It's Impact"

September 1998

The meeting was held at NOON on Tuesday, September 8 at the Broom Factory Restaurant in Cedar Falls. Featured speaker was Tom Wooley of McGladrey & Pullen, LLP who discussed the topic "Compensation Trends in Today's Workplace."

October 1998

Meeting was held at Celebrations, 3555 University Avenue, Waterloo. Speaker presentation, Marilyn Turner, Executive Director, Black Hawk Center for Independent Living, "The Employment Equation: Bringing the Disabled Person to Work."

November 1998

Was cancelled due to weather conditions

December 1998

Was held on Tuesday, December 8, 1998, at Starlite Village Best Western, 214 Washington Street, Waterloo. The Special Holiday Luncheon included a business meeting, volunteer recognition and round table time to allow for net-working with colleagues.
