January 1999

Held at Sunnyside Country Club, the program highlighted Workforce Development Initiatives through the Cedar Falls & Waterloo Chambers of Commerce and the Cedar Valley Economic Development Corporation. Speakers were Kristi Ray - President, Cedar Falls Chamber of Commerce & Sharon Juon - Chair, Workforce Development Committee

February 1999

The noon program on "Team Building" was presented by Colleen Klatt, Executive Director, Black Hawk Leadership.

March 1999

Change Management, by Dr. Dennis Sarenpa, Coordinator of Training Programs,
Management and Professional Development Center, University of Northern Iowa.

April 1999

Dr. Kendra Reed gave an energetic program on Leadership of "the Good, the
Bad, and the Ugly".

May 1999

"Smart Career Moves" Website - Steve McCann, Account Executive, Iowa's Human Resource Recruitment Consortium

June 1999

Fred Lembke - Workforce Development Center/Area VII Job Training, Mike
Howell - Iowa Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services, and Carol
Steckelberg - Hawkeye Community College, gave an informational program on
the "Employment Development Network" and the services available through it.

July 1999

Jim Allen, State Director of SHRM, talked about the State Chapter and the
benefits extended to local Chapters by the State. The 1999 State confer
ence is October 13 - 15 in Davenport. The 2000 conference will be held in
Iowa City. Allen encouraged CVSHRM to consider hosting the State
conference in the future. Allen then conducted the "Garbage Can Game"
where members wrote down persistent HR problems and threw them into a
garbage can. Several questions were retrieved from the can and discussed
by Jim and the members present.

September 1999

Walter Reed, Director of the Waterloo Human Rights Commission was the featured speaker.

October 1999

As the community looks forward to the remodeling/building of area schools, members participated in a tour of East and West High Schools, conducted by Michelle Temeyer, Director of Volunteers, Waterloo Community Schools.
