January 2001
Jean Wright of Area VII Job Training presented information on a national program called Career Connections. Career Connections is an incentive program to provide participants with short-term assignments designed to enhance their employability through the development of good work habits, improved work history and references, opportunity to work in specific work field, and training in an actual work situation. This national program assists eligible participants to get back into the workforce. Employers gain tax and wage incentives, an expanded pool of workers, employees with support and mentoring to enhance job retention, focused motivated employees who have overcome barriers and are ready to enter the workforce.

"Lighthouse Leadership" - Drake Martin of the University of Northern Iowa spoke about motivating people and how the lighthouse leader raises you, lightens you and lifts you up. Drake passed out tents B.E.&.M! Be Exemplary & Motivate This tent is a reminder for all of us to: Be the leader in every relationship. Look for and praise the good in others. Be firm and fair. Be patient with yourself and others. Be genuine, authentic. Value sentiment as much as execution. Reason well with others. Forgive. Have nothing to do with gossip. Thank others, immediately and often. Choose your tones carefully as your words. Make and acknowledge mistakes. By the way you accept it, invite criticism.

Sandra Boost, Area III SHRM Manager, spoke of SHRM being the Global voice of the human resource profession, and about the volunteer opportunities it has to offer to its members.
April 2001
The UNI Student Chapter did a presentation on the chapter's achievements during the past year, introduced the Fall 2001 officers, and shared Human Resources experiences.
Ted Garnett, Founder and President of Performance Resources Consulting, discussed trends he sees as to the Future of Human Resources and where it is going.
May 2001
Pam Patten, of the Iowa Human Rights Commission spoke on the topic of "Meditation Immediately."
June 2001 Speaker, Marty Colwell, EAP Coordinator at Allen Memorial Hospital discussed "Signs of the Troubled Employee."
July 2001 CVSHRM Legislative Chair Leah Gutknecht presented "Are Your Hiring Practices Safe From Discrimination? - Risks of Bad Hiring Techniques." Leah spoke on the Risks of Bad Hiring Techniques, Complaints, Reviewing Your Process and Job Description, Writing Ads/Announcements, Screening Process, gave Tips, AAP Issues, Interviewing, What to Avoid, Selection and The Offer.
August 2001 Jim Robichaud discussed "Effective Employee Recognition Programs" at this early morning meeting held at the Ansborough Avenue John Deere Community Credit Union.
September 12, 2001 CVSHRM sponsored our Third Annual Employment Law Seminar at Hawkeye Community College with attorneys Helen Adams & Ann Kendell (no regular meeting this month). Topics included "When to fight a claim for Unemployment Compensation," "How to better investigate, document and handle investigations of employee misconduct," and a "General employment law update."
October 2001 Speaker Lynn Smith from Dutton, Braun, Staack and Hellman presented "The Most Common Errors Found in Employment Policies"
November 2001 Brad Brown and Kurt Schrieber from the Cedar Falls Police Department on "Workplace Violence."
December 2001 Sharon Juon announced the Perfect Attendance Award and presented an Achievement Plaque to Amy Fay. Sharon shared 3 teasers/team development games. Winners were Sherry Etringer, Susan Wurtz and Christopher Corday. Also 3 door prizes were drawn and winners were Betty Gamundoy, Cristina Johari and Sharon Juon. All winners received poinsettias.
