The committee broke up into 2 smaller groups and developed mission statements for each of these two areas:

Education Initiative: To foster an educational environment within the community of the Cedar Valley that brings to the "top of mind" the resources and opportunities available to both current or future employees and employers. Recruitment/Retention Initiative: To aggressively recruit and retain quality employees for the Cedar Valley area through unified efforts of the Cedar Valley Workforce Development Committee.

Lisa asked for the help of the CVSHRM Group, Human Resources Professionals expertise, your input and your involvement with these issues and program design that directly affects your job and the companies that you represent and asked to come to the meeting or she would be available for any questions you may have.

January 2002
Jan Flick of UNI started out by asking everyone to complete an FMLA Quiz.  The FMLA is a 12 week unpaid job protected leave for one year. One year can be calendar, fiscal or rolling year.  Under the FMLA both spouses working at the same business share 12 weeks of FMLA leave. As an employer, you can give 12 weeks each.  Any shut down time/do not typically work would not count toward the 12 weeks of FMLA. However, Holidays do count toward leave. The employer continues to pay their portion of health insurance and the employee is still responsible for their co-pay.  The employee benefits are continued by the employer, health insurance, life insurance, long-term disability insurance and retirement fund contributions.
