Information on past meetings - 2004:
December Speakers from the University of Northern Iowa and Hawkeye Valley Agency on Aging presented benefits for employees who are caregivers. Membership was at 134 members with 43% National members.
November Adam Wombacher with the Department of Labor presented information on recent revisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Family Medical Leave Act. The slate of officers for 2005 was announced.
October Kevin Paulson of Strategy Source Consulting reported on identifying and developing high-performing leaders. He stated that the leader's most important job - selecting and appraising people – is one that should never be delegated. People don't leave jobs, they leave managers.
September The 6th Annual Employment Law Seminar was held at Hawkeye Community College, featuring Speakers Helen C. Adams and Rebecca Boyd Dublinske, attorneys for Dickinson, Mackaman, Tyler & Hagen, P.C., Des Moines, Iowa.
August Michael Blackwell spoke at UNI's Center for Multicultural Education on "Building a Diverse Workplace."
July Speaker, Brad Johnson from the Silverstone Group revealed Tricks of the Trade on how to negotiate a better health insurance renewal for your company.
June A breakfast meeting held at Bertch Cabinet Manufacturing, with speaker, Rich Ellingson, on "Give 'em the Pickle."
May "Investment Education for Employees" - Henry Maiden spoke on educating employees about investing in their future. He encouraged financial education to help motivate employees to take action.
April Ginny Brown, of Custom Communications Strategies spoke on "Getting Over Your Ego to Get the Job Done." The meeting was hosted by the UNI Student SHRM Chapter at the Cedar Falls Brown Bottle Restaurant.
March The "Thank God It's Monday" seminar was held at Allen College with speaker, Roxanne Emmerich, CSP,CMC.
February "Recruiting/Retention in Anticipation of a Changing Business Economy," was the topic of a discussion lead by Michelle Schmitt, SPHR, Iowa State SHRM Council Chairperson.
January Larry Breeding, Executive Director of Eldercare presented "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of the Long Term Care Delivery System in America."
