Information on past meetings - 2005:
December The noon meeting was held at Beck’s on University Avenue in Waterloo. Tim Carlson of the Department of Labor discussed the Department of Labor’s Apprenticeship Program.
November The CU Restaurant in downtown Waterloo was the setting for a late afternoon session on Time Management with Gail Mote of Gail Mote & Associates
October Mark J. Becker, HIA, Executive Vice President of David P. Lind & Associates spoke about trends and changes in benefits among Iowa employers.
September The Annual Employment Law Seminar was held at the W. 9th St. Expansion of Covenant Medical Center. Attorney Helen Adams-Dickinson, of the Mackaman, Tyler and Hagen, P.C. Firm, updated attendees on relevant federal and state law changes, harassment investigations, drug and alcohol testing rule changes and more.
August Sharon Vogt and Michelle Tegemeier told members about the Big Brothers Big Sisters and School Mentoring Program, the early morning meeting held at the UNI Regional Business Center in downtown Waterloo
July The early morning meeting featured an OSHA Update by Margaret Mead and a tour of the host, Goodwill Industries, facilities.
June Quentin Hart, a speaker who has presented at national conferences on strategies to improve getting along in the workplace, discussed the challenges facing Iowa employers with increasingly diverse workforces.
May CVSHRM hosted a networking/roundtable luncheon at the PIPAC Centre on the Lake in Cedar Falls.
April The UNI Student Chapter of SHRM hosted the April meeting at the Cedar Falls Brown Bottle. Dr. Jayne Witte of the University of Northern Iowa spoke on the topic of “Emotions in the Workplace.”
March Michelle Schmitt, Iowa SHRM State Council State Director, Updated CVSHRM Members on the Iowa SHRM Council and Plans for 2005.
February Robin Gurien, UNI Training and Career Development Coordinator, presented information on employee motivation. Membership was at 127 members with 49% National members. We will be sponsoring Margaret Morford as a guest speaker on April 6th. Allen and Covenant Hospitals are co-sponsors.
January Rodney Drewkow, R.D. Drenkow & Co., spoke on Health Savings Accounts and how they might benefit you and your employees. Hosts for the summer meetings were requested.
